V20 Vivo review
The
Vivo V20, the company's newest V-series phone, is targeted at young Indian
consumers who, according to the company, are transitioning from being content
consumers to content creators. It's the first phone to come pre-installed with Android
11 OS, and Vivo once more pays close attention to the design and camera
specifications.

What
comes with the Vivo V20?
Nothing
in the packaging of the Vivo V20 is missing, not even earbuds. Contents
include:
Phone
with a screen protector already on it
Clear
protective case
33W
quick-charge
USB
Cable (A to C) for charging and data transmission
Simple
earphones
The
Vivo V20 has a stunning design. It is 7.3mm thin and weighs the perfect 171 grams,
which is not something we can claim for the majority of phones we see nowadays.
Although I find the mostly blue "Sunset Melody" hue a little too
showy, there are also the Midnight Jazz (Black) and Moonlight Sonata color alternatives available.
Vivo
Employs
Vivo
employs genuine glass for the back and a polycarbonate frame for the sides. The
power key has a texture that makes it simpler for fingertips to detect, and the
buttons are metallic (only if you are going commando without a case). The
speaker grill, 3.5 mm audio connector, and Type-C charging port are all
symmetrically positioned at the bottom of the device.
The
display has a dewdrop notch on the front, one of the outmoded notch designs,
and is shielded by Schott Xensation 3D glass. We had hoped for stereo output
because of how long the earpiece is. Under the display, there is a fingerprint
sensor that works quickly and accurately.
Review
of the Vivo V20: Display
The
V20's high-quality AMOLED display produces deep blacks and strong contrast.
Although this display only has a 60Hz refresh rate, the UI transitions and
animations are quick, so we weren't too bothered by this. We recognize that
some people may find it difficult to ignore this.
Software
Options
The
software gives the option for a rudimentary always-on display. Additionally
supported is DC Dimming, which eliminates flickering when using your phone in
low light.
Wide
VIN DRM L3
Our
test device is Wide vine DRM L3 certified, but it does not allow HD Netflix or
Amazon Prime Video streaming. Although Vivo promises that this won't be a
problem in retail devices sold in India, there is no way for us to
independently confirm these statements.
Vivo
V20 Camera Review
The
main factor that should set the Vivo V20 apart from its competitors is its
camera performance. The device boasts a 64MP main camera on the back, along
with 8MP wide-angle and 2MP portrait cameras. Vivo places particular emphasis
on the 44MP selfie camera on the front of the device.
Favorable
Daylight
In
favorable daylight, the rear camera performs well both indoors and outside. The
image processing software has been transferred; however, the V20 lacks the
gimbal camera hardware of the X50.
Colors
appear realistic and photographs have a wealth of details in good lighting. The
camera meters quite consistently and locks focus quickly.
Comparison
Alternative
In
comparison to other alternatives in this price range, the camera still works
quite well inside and under artificial light. Vivo's Night mode is useful for
more than just photographing in low light conditions since it improves image
texture, white balance, details, and contrast without overexposing the subject.
We discovered that we used the Night mode a lot, even when there is a tiny
delay.
The
portraits came out pretty well. The camera is good at detecting subject edges.
The viewfinder's "lens" option gives you access to the wide-angle
camera as well as the ability to take macro and super Bokeh pictures. The image
quality produced by each of these settings is also fairly respectable.
Vivo
V20 Pro Tonne
The
Vivo V20 Pro has a tonne of filters, beauty tools, and style modes because Vivo
wants this to be a fun camera for artists. The front camera is in focus as a
result as well.
44MP
Sensor Performs Admirably
The
44MP sensor performs admirably and includes autofocus. Effective eye tracking
by the camera helps to keep things in focus. Particularly useful for formats
like Instagram reels and tick-tock should have this ability. Users have the
option to concurrently use the front and back cameras, capture 4K selfie films,
take portrait selfies, and add filters and effects.
All
things considered, the camera's performance is superior to what is often
offered at this price point.
Vivo
V20 Review: Software and Performance
The
Snapdragon 720G Octa-core engine in the Vivo V20 is combined with 8GB of RAM
and up to 256GB of storage. The Snapdragon 720G performs similarly to the
Snapdragon 730G in terms of performance; however it is undoubtedly not
class-leading. It is nonetheless excellent at managing all daily duties and
even demanding games.
Performance
Particularly
The
performance, particularly for activities like gaming and picture processing,
maybe a little bit slower than what you get on flagships, but the phone isn't
slow by any means. If you enjoy intense gaming, the One plus Nord with 765G
could be more appropriate for you. The Snapdragon 720G met our modest requirements.
From its early days as a blatant clone of iOS, FunTouchOS has gone a long way.
Based on Android 11, Version 11 running on V20 seems much more polished. The
majority of the premium Android 11 features, such as the practical smart home
dashboard in the power menu, notification history, the ability to pin
applications in the sharing menu, and others, have been included by Vivo.
Notification
History
Direct
access to the notification history is available through the notification shade.
The functionality to enable applications to launch as bubbles may be enabled
for those that qualify from their 'App Info' page; however, we were still unable
to get the bubbles to function.
In
addition, RAM management is still somewhat aggressive, which can occasionally
be a pain.
Review
of the Vivo V20's audio and battery
In
this day and age, when manufacturers are pushing up to 7000mAh on major phones,
the 4000mAh battery may not seem like much, but the battery mileage was better
than anticipated. This durability can be partly due to improvements in Android
11 and Fun touch OS 11's rigorous RAM management.
Even
with frequent use, the battery easily lasts more than a day. We use screens for
at least nine hours each day. The 33W fast charger provided in the box takes
roughly 1.5 hours to fully top up the tank.
Audio
Quality Best Acceptable
The
audio quality is at best acceptable, although the single loudspeaker at the
bottom becomes fairly loud. With wired headphones, the audio was excellent.
Vivo V20 supports Qualcomm's AptX, SBC, and AAC Bluetooth codecs. We were
unable to acquire compatible headphones to stream through Qualcomm AptxHD or
LDAC.
Should
you purchase the Vivo V20 after reading the review?
This
year, Vivo has been producing amazing phones with reasonable specs that
nevertheless manage to hit the mark. One such phone that was a lot of fun to
use is the Vivo V20.
It
is a sleek phone that is really pleasant to hold, has a high-quality AMOLED
display, is powered by the most recent version of Android (version 11), and has
superior camera performance than we often see in phones of this price range.
Down
Side Lack Screen
On
the downside, it lacks a screen with a fast refresh rate and the newest and
finest SoC. The Vivo V20 will compete with devices like the One plus Nord and
Samsung Galaxy M51, and we think it offers a respectable option.
